The Argosy

Palmettos, rattlesnakes, and bunny rabbits abounded when The Clark family built this small motel in 1953. A quiet and peaceful residential neighborhood now dominate the area. Since 2000, Greg Clark has been running the motel. Greg was brought to the Argosy when he was five days old. He is the third generation to provide seaside escapes to vacationers in Ormond by the Sea, FL.

Argosy in the 1950's ( Argosy in the 1950’s )

The Argosy is situated just five miles north of Daytona Beach. The cottages are steps away from the natural beauty of the dunes, dolphins swimming close to the shore, and turtles laying their eggs in the sand. In 2010, a new Publix supermarket opened in the mall across the street. It is a convenient place for guests to obtain almost anything they need.

The ocean greets as you pull into the Argosy driveway. Parking right next to your cottage, it is only a few steps to your room or to the beach. In your room, the retro look of the fifties is complete with tongue and groove cypress paneling and terrazzo floors. Passing the pool the on your way to the ocean, the crashing of the waves, and the salty air invigorates your senses.

But these are just the amenities of the Argosy; the spirit of it is harder to describe. What you can’t see, you can only experience. A guest expressed it this way, ‘The home away from home, that’s the Argosy’. When reservations arrive to this little sea side oasis Greg puts a greeting card in the window to  welcome them. “Welcome home, Willie and Margaret”. He lives right on the Argosy property. The customers are his part time neighbors and many he considers his friends.

Come and try this retro motel, with the convenience of wireless. There is plenty of nature and lots of modern comforts. If you listen in a sea shell you’ll hear the waves. They are calling you to the Argosy for a getaway you’ll not soon forget. Call us at 386-441-0630 or email us at [email protected]
