A Morning Rainbow
Here is the close up of the rainbow below taken September 16,2013A beautiful mix of clouds, blue sky and a rainbow Here’s an email from one of our customers: To Greg and Sharon Clark at Argosy motel in Ormond Beach, for posting on your website.
What a wonderful adventure we experienced recently staying at the Argosy motel in Ormond Beach.
The laid-back, peaceful feel from the low-stress, retro, family-run location was refreshing and renewing.
It was like having my high-school bedroom dropped in the middle of a sand dune by the sea, and the owners became trusted neighbors.
Yes, there was wi-fi, but the fast pace of today’s real life slipped away into the ocean, which was a short sandy path through low dunes to the aqua water and blue sky at the beach. There was no high-rise elevator to contend with, no busy tourists to bump into, just a few cottages in the sand and relaxed visitors sitting on little porches at sunset enjoying the warm Florida nights.
Greg Clark said his family from up north gathered together all they had together to build the place more than 60 years ago, but he had no knowledge of the story behind the Argosy name. Well here’s what I think:
I believe the Clark predecessors were fans of the colorful fiction magazines, printed on cheap pulp paper from the late 1880s through the mid 1900s, before television.
Argosy, a magazine of action and adventure stories of all kinds, was one of the most popular of those pulp fiction magazines which faded after World War II when there was a paper shortage and television stole the attention of the nation. Greg said he doesn’t know that to be so, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. And for sure our adventure at the wonderful Argosy was every bit as enjoyable and entertaining as those pop culture magazines were to the solid American families of an earlier era.
Thank you Greg and Sharon for an amazing and wonderful experience.
Best, Audrey Parente and Rich Harvey
